Catholic Youth Parramatta

pilgrims PRAYER

A prayer for the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta's pilgrims travelling to World Youth Day 2011 Madrid.

Ever loving God, we give you thanks for the many blessing we receive in this life. Thank you for the gift of World Youth Day to our young people. We ask your blessing on all our Pilgrims at World Youth Day in Madrid. Bless them on their pilgrimage and help them to build on the many graces and experiences that were the fruit of the World Youth Day in Sydney.

Guide them along right paths by bestowing on them the power of the Holy Spirit, so that they may continue to be your witnesses in the world.

May this pilgrimage renew their faith and confidence in you, and strengthen the bond of communion as they journey together, so that the fruits of their experience might bring renewal to the Church of Parramatta.

We ask this through the intercession of Our Lady of the Southern Cross and in the name of our Lord Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God forever and ever.

Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Pray for us.

Blessed John Paul II. Pray for us.

Apparently I can’t read an itinerary or a world map!

Pilgrim Way Departure

By Lisa Garland, Catholic Youth Parramatta

I arrived at Sydney airport at 12pm with mum and dad looking for check in ‘J’...of course we were at the complete opposite end at check in ‘A’.

Pilgrims had already been arriving from 11am. Lining up to check in was so exciting, our first step on our way to Barcelona. Despite my fear of being over the 20kg luggage limit, I was safe at 18.1kg. Who knows how half these boys managed to only have 15kg. To our surprise, Annabelle & Fr Suresh (from Catholic Youth Parramatta) showed up to see our group off.

After check in, pilgrims had lunch with their families before heading for the departure gate. Some parted with smiles, others with tears...

...Everything’s going well so far. Everyone’s getting along great; you’d think we’ve all known each other for years and years. All the mocking, teasing & laughing is just how we show our affection for each other.

Now here’s where my turbulence begins.

I thought our flight to Bangkok was 6 hours - it was 9.

I thought our flight from Bangkok to Paris was 3 hours - it was 11.5!

I thought our stop over in Paris was 3 hours - it’s 5.

Everyone brought an Aussie flag - I didn’t.

Apparently I can’t read an itinerary or a world map!...

...Now here I am having a coffee in Paris with Kristin Borg, waiting for the rest of the pilgrims to show up for our flight to Barcelona, which by the way, I have confirmed is 1hr 45min before making my own idiotic assumption.

Stay tuned...

Hahhaha, thank you for this great blog, it made me laugh so much. I guess patience is the key here :D It reminds me to probably double check our itinery again, so that I don't get to panicky when I realise that our flight is equally long as yours.
You are in our prayers, see you all in Madrid!
