Youth Mass first step on journey of a lifetime to World Youth Day

Diocesan Youth Mass and WYD Pilgrimages Packages launch
By Lisa Garland

With World Youth Day Madrid just over a year from taking place, preparations are well underway for the youth and young adults of the Diocese of Parramatta to attend ‘the journey of a lifetime’.

A Diocesan Youth Mass was held at St Patrick’s Parish, Blacktown on 25 June which saw the highly anticipated Launch of the World Youth Day Pilgrim Packages for the Diocese of Parramatta. The night began with the gift of Reconciliation at 6:30pm. This was a great way to prepare ourselves to receive Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Fr Peter Confeggi, parish priest of St Patrick’s Blacktown, was the main celebrant and priests from various parishes around the Diocese concelebrated in the Diocesan Youth Mass.

After the final blessing, Fr Fernando Montano, Chairperson of the WYD committee, presented the 4 WYD pilgrim packages assembled for the Diocese of Parramatta. It was exciting to see all the different options. The opportunity of going on a pilgrimage experience and celebrating WYD is a thrilling prospect. We have the chance to enjoy WYD week itself in the heart of Madrid as well as visiting places like Assisi, the holy town of the beloved St Francis, or Lourdes where Our Lady first appeared to St Bernadette, or the Holy Land, where we will be blessed enough to retrace the footsteps of Jesus Christ himself.

Following the presentation, supper was served in the hall. Here we got a chance to collect our WYD Pilgrim Packages and mingle with other young people from around the Diocese. It was interesting to find out which pilgrimage other people were opting for and their plans within their parishes to attend WYD 2011.

A huge thank you to all those who attended from different parishes around the Diocese and to the wonderful priests who were kind enough to dedicate their time to celebrate Mass and hear Confessions.

Thank you also to St Patrick’s Youth & African choir for the uplifting music they provided us.

Viva Madrid!
