Youth Leaders Retreat

Youth Leaders and potential youth leaders came together for a Youth Leaders Retreat that was held on Saturday, 26th February at Mt Schoenstatt Retreat Centre in Mulgoa. The theme of the day was “Here I am Lord” The Retreat was a great success and a wonderful way for the youth leaders to start the year, in the presence of God and each other.

After a fun icebreaker, Ian Smith, Head of Evangelisation and Religious Education for the Parramatta Diocese, gave a talk on ‘Vocation: Called to be a youth leader’. He shared some of his experiences of when he attended youth group and the impact that the youth group and the youth leaders had on him to shape him up to be the person that he is. He then gave us a blue print to follow which include the Sacraments, Mary, Mass and how important it is to be formed in our faith, conviction and love of God. The participants reflected and shared within a group setting: the joys, challenges and dreams for their youth groups. They then brought these back to all present.

Fr Suresh Kumar MSFS, Diocesan Youth Director showed the dvd ‘Indescribable’ by Louie Giglio which really drove home the realisation of how much God loves us! The prayer of the Angelus was then prayed at the Shrine of Our Lady Thrice Admirable and lunch was served. Then Sean Finucane, Director of Catholic Youth Services, shared his experiences and tips from his many years in youth ministry and involvement in Life Teen. The day finished with the Holy Sacrifice of Mass. Catholic Youth Parramatta would like to thank Ian Smith, Sean Finucane, the Tehillah Prayer Community who provided the music for the Mass, all the helpers, and the participants that attended.
