If you happen to see a group of more than 1,000 young people walking the streets of Blacktown late at night on Good Friday, there's no need to be alarmed.

The late-night walk, organised by the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta, will see the group walk 21 kilometres from St Patrick's Church in Blacktown to St Patrick's Cathedral in Parramatta.

Starting at 10pm on Good Friday and finishing at 6am on Easter Saturday, the walk features several stops at churches in the Parramatta diocese, including Seven Hills, Toongabbie and Wentworthville.

Director of Catholic Youth Parramatta, James Camden, said the walk is a way of getting more young people involved in church activities over Easter.

"This is a way for young people to put the theme of [Good Friday] into action. It's an experience of sacrifice."

Now in its fifth year, each year the event has grown in numbers, surpassing 1,000 participants for the first time last year.
