Teams go head to head at the Nepean Deanery Sports Day

Nepean Deanery Sports Day

Nine teams compete to take out the Sports Day Cup

Sunday, 14th November saw parishes across the Parramatta Diocese brave the sweltering 32 degrees to participate in the annual Nepean Deanery Sports Day event. 9 teams turned out to play basketball, volleyball, touch footy and soccer at St Dominic’s College, Penrith - all battling it out for the highly regarded Sports Day Cup!

Half time saw 4 teams on equal points at the top of the ladder.  Delicious hot dogs, fruits and beverages provided by Sue Gauci, Dennis Welfare and Sr Jenny during half time saw our bellies satisfied, spirits lifted and teams ready to tackle the second half.  More sport was played, more goals were kicked, more tries were scored and by the final minutes all eyes were on the ‘Flaming Flockers (St Nics)’ and ‘BASIC gift (St Clair)’ tied on 16 points each.

Could the winner be decided by a tie-breaking relay..............NO…still a draw! What about fastest vs fastest............YES!  In the end it came down to sheer determination with BASIC Gift passing the finish line first by millimetres to take out the 2010 Nepean Deanery Sports Day event.  All in all it was a fast paced, high scoring and fun filled day.

Thanks to Brother Jeff and the staff of St Doms College for allowing us to use the school grounds, thanks to the caterers, organisers, first aiders, referees and participants who made the day a success. The 2011 competition will likely be held in May. Bring it on! For further details, contact
