Holy Week is a pretty special time for young people in this Diocese. Not only do we have the Palm Sunday Procession and Good Friday Walk but we join with youth around the world in celebrating World Youth Day traditionally on Palm Sunday.
This year Pope Francis has challenged us with the message “Never forget: God’s will is our happiness”.
Our Palm Sunday celebrations will also include the official launch of our two pilgrimage options to World Youth Day Krakow in 2016. We will launch the website and potential pilgrims will be able to register their expression of interest.
For those who make it to Parramatta Town Hall a little early on the day we will be providing entertainment by some great young Catholic musicians in our Diocese before we bless the palms.
Significant steps have been taken in the past few months towards a broader expression of youth ministry in the Diocese. Our Youth Council met for the first time last month and will continue to meet throughout the year.
They will take particular ownership of the creative elements engaged with our refreshed Good Friday Walk coming up in April. We’re looking forward to making that pilgrimage through numerous parishes overnight with close to 1000 young people once again. (Participants will need to complete and return a permission form ahead of the Walk - see PDF download below).
How often do young Catholics get to share such a significant week with so many other young people? We look forward to seeing you there.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever.
