Would you like to help refugee children? - Here is your opportunity!
This is your last chance to join SPARK in 2010 to help support refugee children in schools
SPARK (St Vincent de Paul Society Assisting Refugee Kids) provides refugee children and their families with community, educational and social support through primary schools. The program runs every school term at 12 schools in Parramatta, Wentworthville, Auburn, Pendle Hill, Regents Park, Granville, Guildford, Old Guildford, and Girraween.
SPARK is currently recruiting and training volunteers from high schools, universities and the local community to assist with the Bright Sparks program. Bright Sparks is a homework and activities club for Kindy - Year 6 Students, providing homework tutoring and English support. The program is run once a week for 1.5 hours after school from 3 - 4.30pm.
Upcoming FREE training sessions for the program will be held in Parramatta on Friday 1st October and Saturday 9th October.
By volunteering with SPARK you will be part of a very rewarding program that provides much needed assistance to refugee children and their families. No teaching qualifications or experience are required, as training is provided. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, friendly and patient and who love working with children. Taizé Retreat: Pilgrimage of Trust (2-4 JUL)
The Taizé Community is an ecumenical community of brothers from 25 different countries who share a common life of prayer and welcome to young people from all continents.
A brother from the Taizé community in southern France will lead us in a our 'Pilgrimage of Trust’ weekend retreat from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 July at Merroo Christian Centre, Mills Road, Kurrajong.
This retreat is for all ages, although a special section for young people may be held (depending on booking numbers).
Come and join with others from different places and backgrounds to pray, to listen, to share and to be bearers of trust and peace. Be strengthened in our efforts to build a culture of reconciliation and peace.

YOUTH LEADERS FORMATION COURSE
The YLFC is an opportunity for participants to grow closer to Christ whilst being formed in knowledge of the Catholic Faith.
The YLFC builds on the fruits and graces of World Youth Day 2008 and offers a strong foundation to help young adults become leaders after the heart of Jesus; leaders who will contribute to the life of the Church in Australia. It is a time of personal growth in holiness.
The YLFC is a rewarding period of intense learning and personal reflection during which participants explore a range of key themes including:
- What is Leadership
- This Faith of Ours
- Building a Culture of Life; A Civilisation of Love
- Witnesses to the World
This formation program will help each candidate to become a more enthusiastic witness to faith in Jesus Christ for youth & young adults, increase their understanding of many aspects of the Catholic faith and to be equipped to help young people experience the power of the Holy Spirit.
Date: 22 November - 18 December (one month formation course)
Place: YLFC is a full-time live-in experience for all participants at Benedict XVI Retreat Centre, Grose Vale (90 min drive from Sydney & 6km from Richmond)

The Parish Priest of St Bernadette's Parish, Castle Hill, is looking for a person to fill the role of Youth Minister.
The ministry is primarily focused on teens and young people, but the successful candidate would be part of the whole pastoral outreach of this large Catholic parish. The ministry is well established at St Bernadette's Parish.
The role demands flexibility with regard to the personality of the successful candidate and the way in which the 38 hours per week are worked.
