Liturgical resource: Prayer
"In the general intercessions or prayer of the
faithful, the people, exercising their priestly function, intercede for all
humanity."
(GIRM 45)
Prayer is deeply personal but never private. When we pray we are always in communion with the body of Christ, the Church, the community of all believers.
Because we believe ourselves to be children of the one God, we express our solidarity and communion when we pray on behalf of others.
The tremendous dignity and privilege of being able to join in God's saving, transforming intentions for this world should give us great courage in our prayers. Our prayers can and do make a difference.
The Diocesan Liturgical Commission has put together a booklet of intentions to enable you to give support to all in the Diocese through your prayers, while remembering all those in the world who are also in need. It covers an eight-week cycle and can be used continuously.
