Our Diocesan Pastoral Plan to be launched next month!

A Happy New Year to all our subscribers and thank you for being a part of the development of our Pastoral Plan over the past two years. It is an exciting time for our Diocese as we prepare to launch Faith in Our Future, on the weekend of the 22-23 February, 2014!

The culmination of two years of conversation and discernment about the future of the Diocese, Faith in Our Future will contain announcements about future directions, provide a vision for the growth and sharing of faith, and offer practical resources and ideas for parishes, migrant communities and each member of our Diocese to translate that hope into action.

Pope Francis recently reminded us that “Faith is no refuge for the fainthearted, but something which enhances our lives. It makes us aware of a magnificent calling, the vocation of love” (Lumen Fidei 53). Through Faith in Our Future, our Diocese will seek to respond to that calling and vocation of love, promoting pastoral initiatives and ideas for outreach so that the suburbs and mountains of Western Sydney might become a ‘true field of faith’.

However, it needs your prayers and support, gifts and talents to succeed. Look out for the complete and summary versions of the Pastoral Plan that will be soon sent to your parish and migrant communities, and keeping visiting our website www.faithinourfuture.org.au which will be refreshed and relaunched in the coming weeks.

Inside Faith in Our Future you will find:

  • A vision for our Diocese as a whole to grow in faith and to share its faith with others
  • Almost 100 ideas for the renewal of your parish or migrant community
  • Ideas for parishes to work together and collaborate more often
  • Almost 150 agency initiatives to support faith and outreach across the Diocese
  • Announcements of other diocesan initiatives and new structures for mission
  • Implementation guides for parish pastoral councils, parish ministry groups, families and individual members to make the most of the ideas and suggestions provided
  • Feedback forms for every parish to share the good news of their progress and renewal in the years to come

A new Pastoral Planning Office will also be established to offer support to bring the various ideas of Faith in Our Future to life, in ways that suit the unique needs and potential of your community. Our agencies, including CatholicCare, CEO, Institute for Mission, Office for Worship, CCD, and Tribunal Office, among others, are also on hand to support your parish and people take part in this renewed future of faith.

As we enter this new time in the life of our Diocese, we hold great hope in the energy, creativity and faithfulness of our people in their diversity and common commitment to the mission of Christ. As a youthful diocese, with new churches and schools to build, and with thousands of people taking part in the development of this plan, we have much to look forward to in our region.

Our Pastoral Plan, Faith in Our Future, will drive our renewed and expanding mission as a Church in the years to come, trusting in the diverse, Spirit-given gifts of our people and the graces we implore from God. So get involved in the new pastoral initiatives and directions to come and play your part in our future in faith!

With great anticipation and every blessing in this New Year,

Daniel Ang

Hi David, thanks for your question. The Pastoral Plan will be launched on the weekend of the 22-23 February, 2014, primarily through a DVD message from Bishop Anthony Fisher OP in parishes Masses throughout the Diocese. 8-page summary versions and 72-page complete versions of the Pastoral Plan will be sent to parishes in the next week with copies also available through the Catholic Outlook which will arrive in parishes in the days thereafter. This website will also be relaunched in the days ahead, and will offer the Bishop's message and both versions of the Pastoral Plan online. You might like to download a copy on the launch weekend. With appreciation of your interest and blessings for this New Year, Daniel (Pastoral Planning Team)
