New safeguarding initiative launched
A communication strategy has been developed to reach out to unknown survivors of abuse who have been harmed as a consequence of their engagement in ministries of the Diocese.
This outreach campaign is being promoted through parishes, Catholic schools, ministries, Church agencies and the wider community.
The campaign is one of numerous initiatives that aim to provide the community with opportunities to be heard if they hold information about historical and/or current abuse suffered by a representative of Catholic Church personnel in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
Advertisements are running in local newspapers in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains and social media.
People coming forward with complaints or information can call a response line (02 9933 0233) that will be in operation for the duration of the campaign from 7am to midnight, seven days a week. This response line will be managed by skilled professionals who are engaged as a first point of contact for people who wish to come forward.
The Diocese of Parramatta’s Office for Safeguarding and Professional Standards was established to ensure that there are robust systems in place to keep children and other vulnerable people safe when they are involved in the activities of the Diocese.
For all other inquiries about this outreach initiative, people are encouraged to phone the Office for Safeguarding and Professional Standards on (02) 8838 3400.
Information about the campaign is available on a dedicated website: www.safeguarding.org.au
