Mass for Feast of St Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei

Catholic Outlook: Opus Dei

From Catholic Outlook August 2014

Hundreds of individuals and families attended a Mass at St Nicholas of Myra Church, Penrith, for the Feast of St Josemaría Escrivá, founder of the Church’s first personal prelature, Opus Dei.

The Mass was concelebrated by the Regional Vicar of Opus Dei for Australia and New Zealand, Msgr Victor Martinez, and a number of priests of Opus Dei and the Diocese of Parramatta.

During his homily, Msgr Martinez reflected on the Feast Day of the Mystery of the Blessed Trinity, and the Feast Day of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, which were celebrated in the weeks preceding St Josemaría’s Feast Day.

Msgr Martinez said that in St Josemaría’s later years he had developed a great interest in knowing as much as possible about the Blessed Trinity and that his love for the Blessed Trinity had grown more and more, something that was reflected in a passage from one of his homilies:

“Our heart now needs to distinguish and adore each one of the divine Persons. The soul is, as it were, making a discovery in the supernatural life, like a little child opening his eyes to the world about him.

“The soul spends time lovingly with the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, and readily submits to the work of the life-giving Paraclete, who gives himself to us with no merit on our part, bestowing his gifts and the supernatural virtues!”

Msgr Martinez urged everyone present to strive, like St Josemaría, to follow Jesus Christ every day of their lives, pointing out that they could count on the help of the mother of God “who knows the way and will help us”.
