The World Youth Day (WYD) Cross has arrived in Madrid after a two-year journey through 70 Dioceses in Spain.

Madrid's Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela welcomed the Cross, which arrived in Spain for its two-year journey during Easter 2009.

The Cross has now returned to Madrid's Almudena Cathedral, where it stands next to the icon of the Virgin Mary. On 30 July, it will visit different churches around Spain's capital.

The Cross and the icon of the Virgin Mary will then take center stage during WYD 2011 Madrid from 16 to 21 August.
