On 27 July, we welcomed many of our returned World Youth Day Rio pilgrims to gather and celebrate the Eucharist in St Patrick’s Cathedral in Parramatta as they did one year ago before embarking on their journey to be with Pope Francis and the youth of the world in July 2013.

A committed group attended a formation afternoon where they heard testimonies from fellow pilgrims of Parramatta who have felt their hearts changed and on fire for mission in their school and parish communities since.

The sharings were powerful and the love for their faith evident. They had been challenged to leave Rio as a GMD (Go Make Disciples) Generation, and that they did.

I have never attended an overseas World Youth Day but I was inspired by their stories of hope. They had grown in their faith and been formed to share their faith.

There’s much we can learn from them as examples for putting our Diocesan Pastoral Plan, Faith in our Future, into action.
