In the early 20th century, Father Paul Wattson in the USA and Father Paul Couturier (the ‘father of spiritual ecumenism’) in France promoted what has become known as the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2010 will be celebrated in Australia from 16 to 23 May. Drawn from Chapter 24 of St Luke’s Gospel, the theme of the week ‘You are witnesses of these things’.

St Patrick’s Cathedral Parramatta will hold an Ecumenical commemoration service on Monday 17 May at 7.30pm in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, with the Cathedral’s Director of Music and members of the St Patrick’s Cathedral Scholar. Supper will follow in the Cathedral Hall. To attend, RSVP by Wednesday 12 May to Parish Secretary Ms Mili Lee on Ph 02 8839 8414 or email admin@stpatscathedral.com.au

There will also be many ecumenical services held throughout the local area, including at St Andrews Uniting Church in Glenbrook at 8pm on Friday 21 May.
