The December 2013 Towards Healing Royal Commission public hearings
The Royal Commission will start hearing evidence into the Towards Healing process from Monday 9 December.
These will be the first of a number of foreshadowed public hearings to examine the application of Towards Healing in responding to victims and allegations of child sexual abuse against personnel of the Catholic Church.
The December public hearing will focus on the experiences of four Queensland residents who participated in the process.
The accused at the time of the abuse were priests and brothers of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, Diocese of Lismore and the Marist Brothers.
The Commission will hear victims involved in the cases telling their stories and then representatives from the Church, related authorities and others responding.
Representatives from the Church will be cross examined by Counsel assisting the Commission and possibly by the Commissioners themselves.
