St Marys Parish to host Don Bosco relic

Don Bosco Relic News Story
'Apostle of the young' - the statue containing the relic of Don Bosco.
The Salesian Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary in St Marys is hosting a major relic of Don Bosco with two days of prayer and celebration on Tuesday 22 and Wednesday 23 March, on the last Australian leg of the relic's worldwide tour.

The authenticated relic is contained within a specially cast, beautiful statue of Don Bosco surrounded by the young people whom he loved so much, and for whom he gave his life to become the “apostle of the young.”

The celebrations will include the Mass of St John Bosco, to be celebrated by the Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, at 7pm on the Wednesday.

The relic leaves Sydney on Thursday 24 March, bound for China.

The worldwide tour began in 2009, in preparation for the bicentenary of the birth of John Bosco in the hamlet of Becchi, near Turin, in 2015. The relic is visiting more than 30,000 Salesian Religious, Priests, Brothers and Sisters around the world - as well as millions who share Don Bosco’s dream or have been part of his mission - before returning to Italy in 2014.

The celebrations at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish herald a special moment in the history of the St Marys Salesians and the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta.

The Parish is inviting all from around the Diocese to share in the occasion, recognising the remarkable holiness of a Saint for our times, and a Saint for young people.
