St Patrick's Parish Blacktown has joined with the local Sudanese community in celebrating the Feast Day of St Josephine Bakhita on Tuesday 8 February.

An African nun who endured slavery, St Josephine Bakhita (1869-1947) became an inspiration through her work towards freeing girls and women from violence and oppression.

She was Canonised by Pope John Paul II on 1 October 2000 and has since been adopted as the Patron Saint of Sudan.
