The National Pilgrimage of Grace saw the Holy Relic of St Francis Xavier - the right forearm of the 16th Century Saint - journey throughout Australia from September through to the Feast Day of St Francis Xavier.

Bishops and priests from across the country gathered at the St Mary’s Cathedral Mass, which was celebrate in the presence of the Holy Relic. It was the first time the Holy Relic has been out of Rome for the Saint’s Feast Day.

Seen by thousands of Catholics across Australia during the National Pilgrimage of Grace, the Holy Relic was a great source of focus for the national Year of Grace occurring in the Australian Catholic Church. As part of the its pilgrimage, the Holy Relic visited the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta in late November, with Masses and Veneration at Holy Family Parish, Mt Druitt, St Francis Xavier’s Church in Wentworth Falls and St Patrick’s Cathedral in Parramatta.

On Tuesday 4 December, the Holy Relic was boarded onto a flight for Rome, returning to its permanent home at the Church of the Gesu.
