Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP has appointed Sister Ailsa Mackinnon RSM to the position of Vicar for Religious in the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta.

Sr Ailsa is a member of the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta. Since the late 1960s, she has ministered in Western Sydney in primary and secondary education and in congregation leadership.

While principal of Our Lady of Mercy College (OLMC) in Parramatta from 1990 to 2004, she was a member of the Diocesan Schools Board and Chair of the NSW Catholic Commission for Employment Relations.

During her term as Congregation Leader, Sr Ailsa had responsibility for the sponsored works of the congregation: OLMC Parramatta, St Michael’s Family Centre at Baulkham Hills, Mamre Plains at St Marys, St Mary’s House at Campsie and Stella Maris Aged Care Facility at Cronulla along with the pastoral and ministerial welfare of the Sisters of the Congregation.

While Congregation Leader she was the Council of Religious Institutes NSW representative on the Catholic Education Commission. This year Sr Ailsa takes up the position of Executive Director of Mercy Works Ltd in addition to the role of the Vicar for Religious.

Sr Ailsa said she looks forward to being of service in furthering the health and life of religious life in the varied ministries in which they engage.

On behalf of the religious of the Diocese, Bishop Anthony said he would like to thank Ailsa for her willingness to minister to a most valuable asset in the local Church, our religious.
