Special day a time to celebrate faith
By Niki Burnside, Parramatta-Holroyd Sun, 1 April
Record numbers turned out for Palm Sunday last weekend in what was a celebration of young people within Parramatta's Catholic Diocese.
About 1000 people met in the CBD and proceeded down Church Street to St Patrick's Cathedral in North Parramatta.
It was twice as many for the procession as had been seen in previous years, with the throng turning heads while others enjoyed Sunday lunch.
"Everyone was singing and chanting, and all the others around were obviously thinking 'what's going on here'," Director of Catholic Youth Parramatta James Camden said.
"People were taking photos and filming what was going on."
The procession concluded with worshippers spilling over outside a packed service at the cathedral.
The day was more than an opportunity to mark the religious festival, with the Diocese announcing its World Youth Day plans.
