Record Numbers Expected for Jesus the Christ eConference
Thousands of people across Australia and around the world are expected to tune in on Thursday 16 September for the rare opportunity to hear from one of the world’s leading scholars, Jesuit, Reverend Professor Gerald O’Collins, who will be key presenter for the “Jesus the Christ” eConference.
Institute For Mission is a designated 'eSite' for the eConference (click here for details).
This is the fourth eConference presented by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and the Broken Bay Institute, and is hoped to break records for numbers of participants.
The previous three eConferences shared enormous success bringing together more than 30,000 people each time across 26 countries. With more than 355 Registered Sites already on board, the excitement is building for a wonderful event.
One of the Catholic Church’s most eminent theologians, Professor O’Collins has a worldwide reputation as an excellent lecturer, and one who is able to push the boundaries of theological speculation and knowledge. His presentation on Jesus as Fully Human and Truly Divine will tackle key theological questions at the heart of the faith.
Professor O’Collins will be joined by Ms Philomena Billington (Director of Education Sandhurst Diocese); Dr Claire Renkin PhD (Melbourne College of Divinity and Yarra Theological College); and Dr Rev Merrill Kitchen OA (Principal, Churches of Christ Theological College); as they explore Jesus and his mission that we live out today.
Bishop David Walker, a member of the Bishops Commission for Mission and Faith Formation, and in whose diocese the forum will be hosted, said the popularity of the eConferences was wonderful.
“I think it shows that people are hungry for really good quality adult faith formation and opportunities to come together as parish communities or workplace communities to reflect on the Gospel and to really allow the Gospel to have a living, active role in our daily lives,” Bishop Walker said.
For those who can’t take part in the “Jesus the Christ” eConference on the day, the program will be archived on the web so that individuals or groups can access it at a time of their choosing on the eConference website at http://jesus.vividas.com.
