Race day first in series of major fundraising events

We may have been meandering around the track for 10 years, but on Saturday 1 June we will be off and running as the spectacular St Patrick’s Cathedral Race Day makes its reappearance in the diocesan social calendar.
An invitation has been issued to all comers to join the Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, at Rosehill Racecourse for this fabulous day out.
This five-hour event includes a drinks package and a sumptuous three-course meal. Why not get together a group of your friends or colleagues and book a table of 10.
Each ticket also includes a souvenir race book, track entry and parking. For those preferring to ‘hoof it’ to the venue, the train stops right at the racetrack at Rosehill station.
Once inside the Grand Pavilion South function room you will get caught up in the carnival atmosphere. Catch up with friends and colleagues and all the while keep an ear on the buzz. Which horses are making the running? Who does that very knowledgeable fella seem to like in the fifth?
For those who prefer better odds, we will also be selling tickets for a number of raffles to be held during the course of the day. The proceeds will go towards Project Ten: 2003-2013, which was launched in March this year to fund a program of major works within the St Patrick’s Cathedral precinct.
But the Race Day is just the first in a series of major social events planned for Project Ten.
Into the 2013 stretch we will host a scenic coach trip to the Hunter Valley on the first weekend in September. Guests will be treated to a buffet lunch and have the opportunity to sample wine and produce at some of the area’s top wineries.
Coming round the home turn we have the Annual Diocesan Shopping Trip, now in its 12th year, on Saturday 16 November. Once again we will ransack Sydney warehouses on a shopping frenzy to find the best bargains as we fill our Christmas gift lists and personal wish lists topped off by a buffet lunch.
In the last dash for the winning post we will prepare to celebrate the anniversary of the re-opening of St Patrick’s Cathedral on 29 November 2013.
Purchase a ticket or two or three, and join us at each of our fundraising events. Show your support in a tangible way for Project Ten while being a part of the fun and festivities.
Why not treat mum this Mother’s Day with the promise of a family outing to one of these great occasions.
