Parramatta's pilgrims have been making headlines on their journey to World Youth Day (WYD) 2011 Madrid.
The Parramatta Advertiser interviewed St Anthony’s Toongabbie Parishioner Kris Borg prior to her departure with 40-strong Catholic Diocese of Parramatta's Pilgrim Way pilgrimage, which is journeying to France en route to Madrid.
“I was always a committed Catholic, going to Mass with my family, but taking part in World Youth Day (in Sydney in 2008) reaffirmed my faith,” Kris said in her interview the Parramatta Advertiser's Di Bartok.
“I could see that there were young people from different countries who felt the same way that I did, that it was not unusual to have strong faith.
“I saw that you could be cool and have faith.”

CathNews MadridBlog: Mount of Beatitudes
Meanwhile, CathNews Madrid blogger Enjoli Rodrick has written of the words spoken by the Bishop of Parramatta Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP - who is leading the Diocese's Holy Land to Madrid WYD pilgrimage - at a Mass in an amphitheatre outside on the Mount of Beatitudes, on the shore of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel.
"I'll never forget the words Bishop Anthony said to us:
'Have you ever had that Catholic fantasy? The one where you are sitting with Jesus, listening to him preach. Imagining how you would feel and what you would say? Well it doesn't get any more real than this, right here, right now.'
"I caught the eyes of people sitting over the other side of the amphitheatre at that point and we smiled the biggest smile possible," Enjoli writes.
"What else can you do? It was a moment. It needed to be savoured."Read Enjoli's MadridBlog in full at CathNews
