Catholic Diocese of Parramatta Vicar General, Very Rev Peter G Williams VG, has blessed the new Fr Bill (William) O’Connor Libary at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary in Seven Hills, named in honour of the founding Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Regarded as a ‘pioneer for the community’ in the Seven Hills area, Fr Bill served the parish for 32 years.
The school received $2.5 million under the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution Program to build the new library and refurbish its learning spaces.
The new facilities were blessed and opened on Tuesday 9 August.
Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Priest Fr Henry Huu Duc Tran welcomed the parish and school community, as well as other special guests including representatives from the Sisters of St Joseph, who founded the school, Thomson Adsett Architects, Morabito Construction and principals from neighbouring Catholic schools.
In his homily at the blessing and opening ceremony, Very Rev Williams reminded the students to put Christ at the centre of their learning.
"Every time you use this library imagine and think about what God wants from you,’ Very Rev Williams said.
"Jesus is the foundation of everything you do in your lives."
