Mrs Margie Abbott today put down a challenge to all Australians as she launched National Op Shop Week at the Vinnies North Parramatta store on the 23 August 2015. Mrs Abbott asked people to apply the two year rule to their wardrobe. She told the launch that if you haven’t worn an item in two years, you should clear it out and donate it to a charity op-shop.

St Vincent de Paul Society, Parramatta, Central Council Executive Officer, Susan Goldie, says that the event showcased the best that Vinnies has to offer and was a testament to the robust and innovative nature of Vinnies Shops.

“Our shops have stood the test of time. In saying that, they are always changing and adapting to both our customers’ needs and importantly, to the needs of those people who turn to us for assistance. Events like these not only demonstrate how much a part of the local fabric Vinnies Shops are but they are also a reminder of the importance of donating good quality items to charity stores.

“We were thrilled to have so many valued guests at the launch, but particularly pleasing was having students and parents from St Patrick’s Marist College, Dundas join us. These types of partnerships with our local Catholic schools are so vital in building even stronger community connections,” says Susan.

“We ask all of our loyal supporters to consider donating directly to one of our Vinnies Shops in the broader Western Sydney region. We will also be implementing other donor initiatives to make it easier for people to donate so we ask that local residents keep an eye out for these campaigns and get behind us,” says Susan. In the local Parramatta region, Vinnies is also using National Op Shop Week to encourage local residents to donate directly to any of its local Vinnies Shops.

Also in attendance at the launch were Federal Member for Parramatta, Julie Owens; NSW Member for Parramatta, Geoff Lee; Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Scott Lloyd; representatives from other leading charities including the Salvation Army and Red Cross; and students from St Patrick’s Marist College, Dundas.
