Mary's first miracle on 7's Sunday Night

Only an hour before Mary MacKillop's Canonisation in Rome on Sunday, Channel 7's Sunday Night program aired its exclusive television interview with the person the Vatican says was cured by her first miracle half a century ago: Veronica Hopson from the Blue Mountains in the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta.

Diagnosed with acute myeloblastic leukaemia and given weeks to live in 1961, Mrs Hopson (then aged 23) recovered without scientific explanation and through prayers to Mary MacKillop. Veronica's recovery was accepted as a miracle by the Vatican in 1993, leading to Mary's beatification in 1995.

This week, Mrs Hopson celebrates her 73rd birthday.
