Mary MacKillop's better world for the poor
In his CathBlog this morning, Social Justice Co-ordinator for the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta Evan Ellis says there is much to learn from Mary MacKillop's work with the poor and her promotion of education as a means to fight poverty.
"My grandfather was a man of few words. He joined the Royal Australian Navy not long before Hitler invaded Poland. He came back from the war a broken man. His favourite gentle reminder to any complaint was 'there’s no utopia'. He was right," Evan writes.
"But Mary of the Cross is a powerful reminder that a better world is possible. Eradicating global poverty is a good (and realistic) way to go about it."
