After successful Open Days in the past two years, the Sisters of St Joseph will again open the doors of Mary MacKillop Place at Mount Street North Sydney for the 2011 Open Day from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 1 May.

Mary MacKillop Place Director Sr Brigette Sipa said Open Day visitors will be able to take a behind-the-scenes tour of Mary MacKillop Place.

“A lot happens here that people have no idea about. We’re a large operation with facets such as accommodation and function facilities,” Sr Brigette said.

“Visitors will be able to get an insight into what goes on to make Mary MacKillop Place tick.”

Mary MacKillop Place is well known as the resting place of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and many visitors to the Open Day are expected to visit the chapel where the tomb of Australia's first Saint is located.

Entry to the museum at Mary MacKillop Place will be free during the Open Day.

The museum is currently showing an exhibition on the life of Dr James Isbister, who was Mary MacKillop’s personal physician in the latter part of her life.
