John Paul II Institute 10th anniversary celebrations

From the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne

The John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family’s Melbourne campus celebrated its 10th anniversary on Saturday 30 July.

Faculty, students, alumni and friends of the Institute gathered for a Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral, with Melbourne Archbishop Denis Hart the principal celebrant.

The Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP - the institute's founding director and current Professor of Moral Theology and Bioethics - concelebrated the Mass with current director Bishop Peter Elliott. Other celebrants included Fr Jarosław Kupczak OP, Fr Dominic Murphy OP,  Fr Nicholas Pearce, Fr Andrew Keswick and Fr Gregory Pritchard.

Speaking at a dinner at the Hotel Windsor following the Mass, Bishop Anthony noted the importance of theology in the great intellectual traditions of the western world.

Bishop Anthony shared memories of the first ten years of the John Paul II Institute, acknowledging the contributions and support of many, and the role academic institutions such as the John Paul II Institute play in promoting the heart of Christian revelation.
