Holy Father donates $US 50,000 to assist Queensland flood relief

11/01/2011

Pope Benedict XVI has instructed the Pontifical Council Cor Unum to allocate the sum of $US 50,000 in response to the urgent needs of those affected by the recent flooding in North Eastern Australia.

Wishing to express his closeness to the victims and their families, the donation was made as a gesture of solidarity by the Holy Father after being informed of the unfolding natural disaster in Queensland.

The donation has been entrusted through the Diocese of Rockhampton to the St Vincent de Paul Statewide Appeal in view of its distribution across all the flood victims.
