The Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, presented Dr Freda Webb with the Benemerenti Medal on the 3rd Sunday in Advent in St Patrick’s Cathedral on 16 December 2012. The medal is awarded for long and exceptional service to the Catholic Church.

For many years Freda was a member of St Patrick’s Cathedral Parish where she was Chair of the Finance Committee and a member of the Pastoral Council.

When the Cathedral was destroyed by fire in 1996 Freda was actively involved in the reorganisation of the parish.

She was a member of the Diocesan Fundraising Committee for the Rebuilding Fund and a member of the Rebuilding Fund for the Cathedral.

A senior medical practitioner and hospital administrator, Freda’s career in medicine began in Britain. She graduated from the University of London and worked as a medical practitioner for a number of years before immigrating to Australia.

She and her husband, Selwyn, have three sons. Selwyn died in January 2011 after a long illness.

Freda is a member of the Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators and was Director of Medical Services at Westmead Hospital.

In addition to her medical practice, Freda has a Bachelor of Theology and a Masters of Theology in Biblical Studies. She lectured in New Testament Greek at the Catholic Institute of Sydney.
