Diocese, council discuss sharing old King's School site

This morning's CathNews has reported on the discussions between the Diocese of Parramatta and Parramatta City Council to share the Old Kings School site under church ownership.

The Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, has said the Diocese wishes to buy the site from the State Government and lease part of it to the council for an arts precinct, and that he did not expect Premier Kristina Keneally to hand over the prime heritage site to the church.

"We always intended to buy it at market price, to extend our counselling services, but we are discussing with council ways of sharing the site so they can have their arts precinct," Bishop Anthony said.

The Diocese has proposed running welfare services, with an emphasis on alcohol, gambling, family and migrant counselling on the site.
