The Feast of the Annunciation this year was a proud day for the faith community of Rouse Hill when Mass was celebrated for the first time in the new church of Our Lady of the Angels.

The Parish Priest, Rev Fr Warren Edwards, was the principal celebrant for two Masses on 25 March 2015: a morning Mass for pupils and staff of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Primary and a parish Mass in the evening.

Located on the corner of Wellgate Avenue and Withers Road with seating for 500, the church has been designed with a traditional/romanesque theme blended with modern features.

Externally, the building is architecturally captivating and can be seen from various vantage points around the area.

There is an angelis tower with three bells and rising above the steeples are three crosses positioned to be seen from every angle.

In the foyer, the large wooden entry doors give a warm welcome.

Once inside, worshippers experience a light-filled area, which creates a sanctifying atmosphere.

The dome in the centre of the roof depicts an icon of Christ surrounded by a night sky filled with stars.

The internal layout of the Church promotes visibility to the altar from the pews. The design allows for overflow areas, which can be utilised for major celebrations.

The windows are decorated with artworks created by Mrs Christine de Stoop and depict biblical imagery including the Mysteries of the Rosary.

Many of the windows and pews have been dedicated by families in the parish community. Additional murals are proposed for the archway above the marble altar, which contains relics of St Francis.

The new church is testament to the hard work and commitment by Fr Warren and the faith community of Our Lady of the Angels, which was established as a parochial district in 2007.

There are now three Masses every weekend with about 800 attendees, mostly young families typifying the demographic of the area.

The church was designed by De Angelis Taylor & Associates PL in conjunction with a church building committee, which sought an iconic church, one which the people of the wider Rouse Hill community would be proud.
