Catholic Education strings teachers win Golden Fiddle Awards

Two Catholic Education, Diocese of Parramatta school strings teachers - Phil Rooke and Andras Racz -  have been awarded prestigious Golden Fiddle awards at the Tamworth Country Music Festival for ‘Best Fiddle Composition’ and ‘Best Fiddle Teacher’ respectively.

Phil, a teaching educator for the Catholic Education Office teaches strings using his innovative teaching program to over 480 students across four Catholic schools in the Diocese. Phil was awarded best fiddle composition, ‘Jazz Suite of the Week’ which is a five-movement work for jazz violin and rhythm section.

Hotly contested by some of Australia’s leading players was the Best Fiddle Teacher category, which resulted in a winning tie for Catholic school strings teacher, Andras Racz and Queenslander Emma Nixon.

Andras has worked as a highly acclaimed violinist, vocalist, orchestrator and arranger in eastern Europe and currently teaches strings and conducts ensembles for Catholic schools in the Parramatta Diocese.
