Former Prime Minister, The Hon RJL (Bob) Hawke AC, will deliver the inaugural Bishop Manning Lecture on Thursday 7 October at the Kirribilli Club, Lavender Bay.

Hosted by the Catholic Commission for Employment Relations (CCRE), The Bishop Manning Lecture will be an annual by-invitation event in honour of the Bishop Emeritus of Parramatta's commitment and contribution to the development of Catholic workplaces as places of justice and human dignity.

According to CCRE Chair Anne Gorman, The Bishop Manning Lectures are intended to be both a testament and ongoing contribution to Bishop Manning’s work in the area of employment relations, with an eminent person to be invited each year to speak on an employment-related topic of relevance to both the Church and the broader society.

"The lectures are intended to focus on principles of the common good, community, subsidiarity, human dignity and justice," Anne said. "They will embrace the practical application of these principles and, for this reason, it is anticipated that the lectures will attract broad public interest, both inside and outside of the Catholic community.

"Like many other people, I have been privileged to work with Bishop Manning and to have benefited from his dynamic example of service to the Church in action in contemporary society. As such, the annual Bishop Manning Lectures will be a fitting tribute to his legacy."
