Bishop Anthony and Parramatta pilgrims gather for Thanksgiving Mass

ROME: The Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, has concelebrated  yesterday's Mass of Thanksgiving for St Mary of the Cross, with thousands of pilgrims from Australia and around the world giving joyful witness.

The Mary MacKillop Canonisation E-Newsletter has reported that the ancient Roman Basilica of St Pauls Outside the Walls was packed with thousands of pilgrims from Australia, New Zealand and around the world yesterday for the Thanksgiving Mass - the  first official Mass of St Mary MacKillop since her Canonisation in St Peter’s Square on Sunday.

The Mass was presided over by Sydney Archbishop Cardinal George Pell, who was joined by Bishop Anthony and bishops and priests from around Australia and the world.

Sr Maria Casey rsj, the Postulator for the Cause of Mary MacKillop, welcomed those gathered, saying that for her, the Canonisation had brought to mind the instance when Mary the Mother of God visited her cousin Elizabeth and said ‘God as done great things for me’.
