Bishop Anthony
Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP.
The Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP, has stressed the significance and inspiration of the saints for Catholics in today's world during a lecture at Institute For Mission (IFM).

Bishop Anthony was addressing an audience of more than 90 men and women from across the Diocese of Parramatta on Wednesday 4 August, opening a three-part lecture series at IFM entitled ‘For all the Saints’.

In his address, Bishop Anthony also spoke of the invitation that God makes to each one of us to be living witnesses - or ‘God’s space’ - in our own society.

The Bishop recalled the sacrifices and fidelity of some of the outstanding saints of Christian tradition, as well as the stories of some of the lesser known saints.

The variety and ability of the saints to express their holiness in the ordinary circumstances of life encouraged all those present and the gift of the saints’ intercession on our behalf was affirmed and celebrated. After his address, Bishop Anthony responded to a number of questions from the floor before concluding with a blessing over the participants gathered.

The second lecture in the series will be held on 8 September and celebrates the upcoming beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman. The final lecture will be held on 13 October, celebrating Blessed Mary MacKillop just days prior to her Canonisation in Rome on 17 October.

The lecture series is free, though bookings are essential.
