World Refugee Day 2011
“I was a stranger and you took me in.” - Matthew 25:35
This year’s World Refugee Day (Monday 20 June) coincides with the 60th anniversary of the United Nations Refugee Convention, and is being promoted by the Australian Catholic Migrant & Refugee Office (ACMRO) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
World Refugee Day is a national day of prayer for refugees, with Catholic churches focusing on the theme set by the late Pope John Paul II - ‘Intercultural Integration’.
ACMRO is also urging all Australians to use the day as an opportunity to reflect upon and acknowledge the courage of refugees both in Australia and around the world.
