In celebrating the Silver Jubilee year of the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta, a historic exhibition of items from St Patrick’s Cathedral Parish will be on display during September in Murphy House, the restored Victorian-era presbytery in the Cathedral precinct at 1 Marist Place Parramatta.

Items on display include a copy of the proclamation by Governor King giving permission for Fr James Dixon to celebrate the first official Mass in Parramatta on 22 May 1803.

The exhibition also includes significant events in the life of the Cathedral, including the fire of 1996.

There is a collection of photos dating back to the early 1900s, as well as artefacts owned by various priests and parishioners.

The exhibition is open for general viewing from Tuesday 6 September to Monday 19  September.

Hours: Mon-Sun between 10am and 4pm.

7 September Cathedral Tours

As part of the exhibition, local historians will conduct tours of the Cathedral on Wednesday 7 September.

The tours will offer a detailed educational look into the Cathedral’s history as well as the theology of the Cathedral’s architectural design.

Tours are FREE but numbers are strictly limited.
