Regional Coordinator’s Message
|Blacktown Region Co-ordinator Connie Cassar|
Welcome to Blacktown region page!
There are eight parishes in the region - Blacktown, Blacktown Sth, Doonside, Lalor Park, Marayong, Plumpton, Rooty Hill and Seven Hills. Within the parishes there are 31 state schools including a Special Needs School and with more than 3,000 students enrolled in SRE classes.
“We can do no great things; only small things with great love.”
This quote, from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, often comes to mind as I work along side such dedicated and passionate people. There are the 170 volunteers in the Blacktown region and it is with their great passion and love for the ministry, they go out to the children in the state schools and teach the Good News about Jesus. This includes twelve secondary students from Patrician Brothers’ College Blacktown who teach SRE weekly.
In each of the parishes, the SRE Parish Coordinators and their teams, which do amazing work in their parishes, support the SRE teachers. The region is blessed to have such a fantastic team.
There are secondary state schools where SRE teachers teach weekly; The Hills Sport High, Blacktown Girls High and Rooty Hill High. Mitchell High has a series of six seminars across the year for Yr 7-11 students.
Across the diocese, the CCD is reinforcing Orientation sessions, which are being conducted at parish level. At these sessions, the prospective people are given vital information about the ministry and the commitment it requires. This introduction gives a broader understanding and a forum to know more about of the SRE ministry.
CCD Primary & Secondary Training courses & Reflection Days are available across the diocese during 2013. See your parish coordinator for details.
Smart Board In-services are a focus across the diocese. Blacktown region has had several of these in-services at parish level, with many embracing the technology to learn more about the interactive activities presented to them. The SRE teachers who attend these in-services receive a USB with all the resources they need to enhance their SRE classes.Recruiting for more SRE teachers is always a challenge, and many of the parishes need extra people involved. Some parishes have successfully recruited more volunteers to work in the ministry. It is always inspiring to have the commitment of the long servicing SRE teachers, the secondary students and the young people who attend university and are still able to teach SRE in their busy week.
