Mother’s Day Craft Idea(Submitted by Kingswood Parish)
This was made after the lesson about Holy Mary our Mother but could be used for other occasions.
Materials needed:
- One large sheet of coloured cardboard
- Small pieces of coloured paper
- Coloured pencils, textas, gel pens
- Glue
Method:
Fold the large, coloured cardboard in half and cut. This will make two large cards.
On the front of the card glue the title picture. As this was for Mother's Day I made a heading “Happy Mother’s Day” with a nice border the size of a quarter of an A4 sheet. (Underneath it, you can write “From years X and X [the name of the school] Catholic scripture class [year}”.)
On the inside of the card, I glued another heading “We are thinking of you” the size of a third of A4 paper.
In class I gave each child a coloured piece of note paper asked them to fold it in half to make a mini card. I asked the students to draw something nice on the front, flowers, hearts etc, and then write something nice for a grandma, mum etc, such as “Happy Mother’s Day”, “We are thinking of you”, “God bless you”, etc. In our case, we glued all the little cards inside the big card, and presented the card to a nursing home for mother’s day.
Beaded candlesMaterials: - Candles of various sizes and colours
- Sewing pins
- Small, decorative beads with small enough holes for the pin heads to hold in place
- Ribbon or lace
Method:
Decide what kind of pattern you want on your candle. Thread a bead onto a pin and push the pin gently into the body of the candle, repeat until you have achieved your pattern. Tie a length of ribbon or lace around the base of the candle, using additional pins to hold in place. To display the candles, sit them on a nice dish. You could use your beaded candles as the centerpiece for your Christmas table. Candles also make lovely gifts.Remember – Never leave a candle burning when there is no one in the room.
