Regional Coordinator’s Message

Thank you for visiting the information page on the Hills Region.  This wonderful region is made up nine parishes:- Baulkham Hills, Baulkham Hills South, Castle Hill, Dundas Valley, Kenthurst, North Rocks, North Parramatta, Rydalmere and Winston Hills.  There is great diversity across the region in the size of the parishes and the schools that SREs serve in.

Hills SREs bring to the ministry a great diversity of gifts and talents.  These are shared with the students in the 25 primary schools and a small number of secondary school in which they teach. Hills SREs use a variety of teaching methods and resources – powerpoint, smartboards, music, drama, a variety of storytelling techniques, craft, quizzes and games and much more.

Many SREs have participated in training courses and in-services offered by the CCD.  These courses and in-services have provided opportunities for SREs to gain confidence in their teaching as well as learn many new ideas on how to engage the students they teach each week. Their weekly lessons are therefore more positive and enjoyable for both the students and the SRE.

Each of the Hills parishes is very ably led by Parish Co-ordinators and teams who enable the ministry to function both administratively and pastorally.  This group gathers as a Regional team each term to share information and ideas in a friendly supportive environment.

The “Spirit of the Hills” is the Regional newsletter which is published each term.  It includes information, resources, reports, photos, spiritual input, recipes and small snippets of humour.  Through the newsletter SREs stay connected to what is happening across the region and the Diocese.

Hills SREs are wonderful in the way that they support each other – not just those within their own parish but those in other parishes as well. This collaboration can be seen in the way that some SREs will teach in their own parish as well as in a neighbouring parish.  SREs also car pool across parishes for Regional and Diocesan functions.

SREs in the Hills region are “spirit inspired” people who regularly live their Christian mission of spreading the Good News of Jesus.

Hills Schools

Teaching days across the Hills Region are Mondays to Fridays at various times during the day.  Times vary across the parishes.  Please see below for a full list of schools within our region
