Welcome to the Hawkesbury Region’s page.

Our Region consists of seven parishes, which geographically cover the area that stretches from Bilpin in the northwest, Maroota in the north and Kellyville in the east. Our southern-most suburb is Acacia Gardens. The newest parish in the region is that of Rouse Hill. In total, there are 40 state primary schools, eight state high schools and two special schools in the region.

A significant feature of the region is the Hawkesbury River which was the inspiration behind the region's symbol and motto:

"They shall be like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream. It shall not fear when heat comes, and leaves shall stay green; in the year of drought it is not anxious, and it does not cease to bear fruit." (Jeremiah 17:8).

There are 115 Catechists/SREs in the Hawkesbury Region. With more than 2,700 Catholic children enrolled in the state schools, there is a constant need for new Catechists/SREs to help out in the parishes. Our motto reminds us to open our hearts to the many blessings the Special Religious Education ministry contains. Just like the tree in the verse, the Catechists/SREs continue to bear fruit in the Hawkesbury Region by sharing in the mission of Jesus. We teach the Good News about Jesus to the children who attend the state schools in the area.

If you haven’t heard of Special Religious Education before, this may be an opportunity for you to ask at your parish about how you can become involved in this very rewarding work. The classes, on average, are half an hour for one session a week. There is of course preparation time involved but you’ll have plenty of help to start you off. The lessons are scheduled into the school timetable, during school hours. Your parish can provide you with more detailed information about days, times and available classes.

For all our current Catechists/SREs, keep watching this space for updates and information on courses and inservices being held across the Parramatta Diocese.

Of course, don’t forget to check the Hawkesbury Heart newsletter that comes out once a term in the region. Articles are always welcome for submission.
