In September 2010, Miss Bethany Lentern joined the Catholic Education Office, Parramatta as the Youth Ministry Project Worker and Schools World Youth Day (WYD) Coordinator.

In her role, Bethany is responsible for coordinating the registrations, preparation and formation of more than 100 staff and students participating in the Holy Land to Madrid WYD Pilgrimage.

With every school in the system fundraising to support the pilgrims, Bethany is working to ensure every school is involved in the celebrations and spirit of WYD.

In October, Bethany joined other Australian WYD Coordinators in a familarisation tour of Madrid in preparation for WYD. During this tour the group visited the locations for the Opening Mass, Papal Arrival, Stations of the Cross and the Vigil and Sleepout.

A significant aspect of this tour was visiting the WYD Office and meeting various members of staff and learning how the WYD preparation plans are progressing.

One of the highlights of the tour was visiting the Almundena Cathedral in Madrid. Bethany urges pilgrims who attend WYD to visit this Cathedral.

There is no doubt it will be crowded but it contains some amazing statues and the coffin of Saint Isidore the Worker, one of the WYD Patron Saints.

The most important aspect of going to WYD is the preparation process. Pilgrims should register at www.wydtours.com.au then attend the Formation Sessions advertised on this page and at www.parra.catholic.org.au/youth
