Community History
The Chinese Catholic Community (or CCC in brief) was formed by a group of Catholics in Sydney in 1983 with the aims of fulfilling their religious goals. With the help of Fr Dungan Aidan, the group met on Sunday at St Joseph's Church, Camperdown where Mass was celebrated in both the English and Chinese languages. As the number of Chinese Catholics increased, CCC was able to offer not only Mass at Camperdown, but a wide spectrum of activities such as spiritual retreats, social gatherings, social services and a Chinese language school. To the new migrants, especially those who have language problems, CCC also helped them to settle in the new environment.

The fast growing Camperdown congregation soon stretched the St Joseph's Church to its limit. CCC decided to set up a second centre in another part of Sydney; at St Monica's Church in North Parramatta in September 1991. The primary school of the church is also being used as the new site of the CCC Chinese language school. All of these would not have been possible without the kind support of Bishop Bede, the first Bishop of Parramatta.

In view of the sizeable Chinese population in Sydney, CCC set up a third centre at the Holy Family of Nazareth in Lindfield in June 1997.

Community History
Ours is a migrant community. Some Italian migrants settled down in the district before World War II; but the actual migration to the district began in the early 1950's when an Italian Company (EPT), opened shop in Marayong for the construction of steel poles to carry electricity all over Australia. Most of the workers came from Italy in search of a better life. A chapel dedicated to St Anthony of Padua was built on land owned by the Company.

From the beginning the Capuchin Fathers looked after the spiritual welfare of these migrants. Fr Silvio Spighi was in charge of this community for more than thirty years.

Community History
The Polish War Memorial Chapel under the patronage of Our Lady of Czestochowa is the only Polish sanctuary in metropolitan Sydney. It was designed and built to commemorate the millennium of Christianity in Poland and as a memorial to millions of Polish people that perished in the Second World war.

On the left hand side of the interior of the Chapel is a mausoleum which contains the urns of soil from the major battle fields and places of carnage in Poland. The walls feature plaques with the names of deceased clergy that served the community since the post-war migration.

The Chapel was consecrated by Cardinal Sir Norman T. Gilroy in December 1966 and has been a place of worship ever since.

Within the period of forty years a number of important services such as Brother Albert's Hostel and Nursing Home for the aging Polish community have emerged where spiritual needs are provided by the clergy of the Polish War Memorial Chapel.

Across from the Chapel stands the hall named after Pope John Paul II equipped with a sizeable kitchen, stage and a library. The hall is used for concerts and other communal functions not only for the Polish community but also for the Phillipine and Maltese communities which use the Chapel as a place of worship and other liturgical rites.

Community History
The Slovenian Chaplaincy has been in existence in Australia since 1951, when two Slovenian Friars first arrived in Australia from the USA. They were stationed at Franciscan Friary, Waverley and St Francis Friary in Paddington. They were visiting Slovenian migrants who lived in camps at Bunnerong, Cabramatta, Greta, Fairymeadow, Matraville, St Marys, Villawood and elsewhere.

Since then there have been at different times about 17 Slovenian Friars in Australia. They were members of the Holy Cross Custody in Lemont, Illinois, USA or members of the Slovenian province of the Holy Cross, with headquarters in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Presently there are Slovenian Chaplaincies at Merrylands (Diocese of Parramatta) since 1970; Kew, Victoria and West Hindmarsh, SA. They provide spiritual care for Slovenian Catholics. All three mentioned centres are also cultural centres.

The Slovenian people migrated to Australia beginning in 1949 and the following years. These were political migrants, fleeing from Communism. In 1950 and 1970 there was another influx from Slovenia, the economical migrants.

The Slovenian Community in Merrylands was started in 1969, with the purchase of an old Presbyterian church in Merrylands. Between 1970 to 1973 a new church, St. Raphael Archangel was built there; and blessed by auxiliary Bishop Dr Stanislav Leni? from Ljubljana, Slovenija. The Slovenian Franciscan Fathers at Merrylands also care for Slovenian Communities in Wollongong and Figtree NSW, Canberra in the ACT, Queensland and Perth in WA.
